English
originally hails from England. With a seamless geography possible with
travel and trade, English has spread far and wide. There are about 375
million people who speak the native English language and over 470
million people who consider English as a second language. English has
several influences and borrowings. German words, Anglo-Saxon influence,
French impressions and many other Indo European sections originate from
the main English.
Writing in English is a specialized talent and it is surprising
that many writers need not be the best public speakers. At the same
time, people who speak effectively and take an effort to include new
words from the dictionaries or innovate sentences and rhyming words with synonyms are talented to write well too.
The available books of English speaking takes you to a
world of short sentences and stresses on punctuations. Reading is the
prerequisite to effective speaking. Reading a comma, a full stop and
exclamation is much desired as you read effectively. The voice should
be modulated and erased off other native accents. The art lies in
listening and then imitating. Once mastered the language can be a
creative idea and speaking is no more a hindrance.
It is essential to preserve our vernacular medium and retain our
Indian culture.
At the same time competent speaking in English is a means of survival
in trade and commerce. Whether it is programming for computers or
aerial and maritime communication, English is the medium of connection.
Many countries that do not consider English as their native language
have included English as their second language.
