Making common grammatical errors while learning English language is not a surprising fact. Partly it could be believed too that English itself has some grey areas which remain unexplainable for even linguists as they come across some examples and observations which even the first timer unknowingly gathers.
Let us take a look at some of the most common grammar errors that the world already knows about
* Let us talk about the two words found creating some confusion. They are 'accept' and 'except'. While 'accept' means to willing receive something such as 'accept an order', 'except' usually means 'apart from' or 'excluding'. Learners mostly make errors while using the spelling of one with the meaning of the other.
* The use of incorrect use of adjectives is a commonly found error in grammar. For e.g. the articles 'A', 'An' and 'The'. Learners find it difficult to use the appropriate article with it is followed by a vowel. For e.g. A elephant is wrong as it does not follow grammatical rule of placing the vowel after the article 'an' such as 'an ice cream', 'an apple' and not 'a ice cream' or 'a apple'.
* Joining two sentences with a comma or making too much unnecessary use of commas without its actual objective.
* Use of 'can' and 'may' such as 'can I come in Sir' instead of the correct one i.e. 'May I come in Sir'?
* Confusion with comparatives and superlatives such as 'My voice is the sweetest one on this earth'.
a. Proof reading
Proof reading is the one of the last stages of 'checking' your writing even after edition of the piece is done. This is to ensure that the writing is free from minor grammatical errors, placing of the paragraphs, spelling mistakes, proper use of prepositions, nouns, adjectives or verbs, balanced spaces between the two words and two paragraphs and so on. While we may consider the content to be given main points here but at the end of the day presentation and grammatically correct articles or writings matters takes in equally important grades here.
b. Correct grammar
While creating a piece of writing care should be taken to write grammatically correct sentences as they reduce much efforts in later stages of editing and proof reading of your work. Although we have grammar check tools which help in checking the same it becomes a writer's prime focus as without this a smooth effect in your skills gets hindered.
c. Editing Proofreading
Although many mistake editing to be same as proofreading let us be very clear that there is a prominent line drawn between the two. Editing involves an enormous task the moment your writing is complete. It takes in to account details such as content, structure of the sentences and further the paragraphs, meaning of the content and its relation with the heading or title, style, clarity of thoughts as portrayed by the writer and citations at the end. Proof reading however begins its function after editing finishes. Proofreading mainly deals with the minor grammatical mistakes and errors with commas or spellings here and there. In case if the errors are more and seem saturated, the writing then reverses back to 're-edition' and 're-writing' of the process.
d. English grammar check
Either manually or technically done, English grammar check is one of the most important feature whether written or in speech form. Technological advancements have brought in the influx of latest software's which are multi tooled and functions everything from grammar check to editing and proofreading as well.
